CHMI is an NSF-backed Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) that conducts pre-competitive, cutting-edge research on composite materials joining and interfacing.

CHMI research is selected, funded, and steered by the Industry Advisory Board (IAB), and is conducted at the three partner university sites, in close collaboration with the Industry Members.

CHMI's current IAB includes small (< 500 employees, SBA def.) and large companies from the Aerospace, Automotive, Ground Vehicle, Farm Equipment, Materials/Chemical, and Wind Power sectors.

CHMI-affiliated faculty at the three University Sites contribute to the center’s success by bringing world-leading expertise in material science, composite manufacturing, and material joining. The three University Sites are Georgia Tech (Lead Site), Oakland University, and The University of Tennessee – Knoxville.
